In the mid 1990s, there was a dramatic increase in the number of patents took place. These patents represent progress in all areas of GTL technologies, including new catalysts, plant designs, and reactor configuration. Almost all of the largest petroleum companies have dedicated programs of research and development related to GTL technologies.
